The Rochesters trace their roots back to 1955, when Harold Rochester convinced Joyce White to join his group. They married shortly thereafter, and still lead the group today, with Harold singing bass, and Joyce singing alto. They have four children, Brent, Brady, Rebecca (Becky), and Ben; Brent and Brady are both married and have left the group, wile Becky and Ben are also married, and travel with their families. Becky sings soprano/lead and plays bass, her husband Scott plays guitar and preaches, and Ben sings lead/baritoneand plays banjo, dobro, fiddle, harmonica, mandolin, and guitar. The group has been described as a mix of bluegrass and Southern Gospel, with a country twist.
A house fire in 1988 was the catalyst for the group's decision to go into full-time ministry, and doors opened for them to sing in Canada, Mexico, and thirty-one states (so far). They view their mission as evangelistic, stating: "It's the desire of our hearts to reach the world with the glorious news that Jesus Saves! . . . We feel it's our responsibility to tell others about salvation and to encourage the children of God through song."
