Sunday Morning Ivories Vol. 2 by Kim Collingsworth

Released: Jun 17 2005

Much like its predecessor, Sunday Morning Ivories Vol. 1, Volume 2 offers a little over forty-five minutes of continuous piano music. Think of it as an extended medley of twenty-three songs—praise songs, Southern Gospel songs, and familiar hymns. Wayne Haun co-produced the project, and orchestration was provided by the Prague Philharmonic Orchestra.

The music transitions from one song to another come off as natural, but it's clear that the project wasn't just arranged around chord progressions. There is a thematic consistency and flow to the project. It starts off with several calls to worship, arranged in a subdued, contemplative setting. These transition to a majestic set of songs centered around God's holiness and worthiness, anchored by renditions of "Holy, Holy, Holy" and "Above All." A meditative set of songs themed around God's love offers a meditative mid-point. The tempo shifts to up-tempo for "Down By the Riverside," and from there the songs build to a majestic finish.
