The Jody Brown Indian Family (JBIF) started singing in the early 1990s. Based in Robbinsville, NC, the family group was composed of Jody Brown (baritone/bass guitar), his wife Donna (alto), their son Jeremy (bass/guitar/mandolin) and daughter Stephanie (mezzo-soprano/mandolin), and Jeremy's wife Ashley (soprano). Most of the group members were tribal members of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, so the group performed several songs in the Cherokee language in their concerts.
During their years on the road, they had several top 10 radio hits and received a Singing News Fan Award nomination for Horizon Group (in 2000).
The family retired from the road in 2007. Stephanie Brown married Dale Scragg and moved to West Virginia. Jeremy and Ashley Brown do studio work and fill in with various Christian groups. Jody and Donna Brown still perform in their area.
