The original Dove Brothers Quartet lineup was so adept at rendering traditional Southern Gospel quartet songs that the group was primarily known for those renditions for their first five or six years on the road. A new vocal lineup led the Dove Brothers to re-assess their strengths; Anything but Ordinary, Everything but Typical began the process of repositioning the Dove Brothers as a group that could also deliver country or progressive arrangements. It's not that the Dove Brothers ever lost touch of their roots; McCray Dove offered a new rendition of a song he'd written years before, Masterpiece, and Jerry Martin delivered a stellar rendition of Believing is Seeing. The title track, though, and It's Waiting for Me, both offered more adventurous arrangements, while Gossip the Gospel was a novelty track with an adventurous lyric. One More Miracle, featuring bass singer David Hester, resonated so deeply with fans that the Dove Brothers built a concert tour around the song.
