Calvin Hunt grew up in Queens, New York as one of eight children of an alcoholic single mother. He started working at a pizzeria at age twelve to help pay the bills. He formed his own band, which later disbanded; he then became addicted to crack. With the support of his wife and children, he was able to overcome this addition.
Hunt went on to full-time ministry, as a member and soloist of the Christ Tabernacle Choir and of the Brooklyn Tabernacle Singers.
His final release, Bridges (Vine, 2008), was nominate for two 2008 Dove Awards, Contemporary Gospel Recording and Contemporary Gospel Song (for "Come On.")
After a battle with cancer, he died on December 26, 2009, at fifty-two.
