The Boxcars launched in 2010, making waves with award-winning instrumentalists, accomplished vocalists, and a quickly-filled schedule including dates at many of the largest Bluegrass festivals.
Seven-time IBMA (International Bluegrass Music Association) Mandolin Player of the Year honoree Adam Steffey contributes his picking and baritone singing to the group's sound. Steffey has performed with the Lonesome River Band, Alison Krauss and Union Station, and the Isaacs.
Banjo player Ron Stewart brings over three decades of experience playing banjo, fiddle, guitar, bass, and mandolin; he played fiddle for six years with J.D. Crowe and The New South, including on their Grammy-nominated Lefty's Old Guitar release.
John R. Bowman plays fiddle, and comes to the Boxcars after stints with Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver, Alison Krauss, and the Isaacs.
Keith Garrett brings guitar, singing, and songwriting to the group. He was a founding member of Blue Moon Rising, which started in 2000 and was nominated for the "Emerging Artist of the Year" award in 2006 by the IBMA.
Bassist Harold Nixon has performed with J.D. Crowe and the New South (also appearing on the Grammy-nominated Lefty's Old Guitar project) and with Blue Moon Rising.
