During last year’s National Quartet Convention (NQC), I made guest posts for the Talley Trio’s community website, www.talleytree-o.com. This was enough of a success that I have been invited to reprise that role, as well as making guest posts to three other Crossroads artists’ community sites: the Crist Family’s, Voices Won’s (www.voiceswon.com), and Janet Paschal’s.
Throughout the week, I plan to post updates from other Crossroads artists and staff on this site. I will also be making general posts, including extended summaries of the evening concerts, at my own website (www.southerngospelblog.com).
Crossroads celebrated with the Talley Trio to recognize the recent success of the song, Life Goes On, which reached #1 in the month of June on the Singing News National Airplay Chart. The celebration included a special luncheon with the group and the Crossroads staff at the Crossroads studio and offices.
Veteran radio promoter Jim Stover congratulated the group for gaining their 10th #1 single. “When a true heart for ministry is coupled with extraordinary vocal and arranging talents like this wonderful family has, the result is bound to be chart-topping songs. The old adage about ‘the cream’ rising definitely applies here! Crossroads is honored to be the Talley Trio’s record company, and we’re grateful to our many radio friends for making ‘Life Goes On‘ their 10th # 1 song!”

One of the biggest songs for 2007-2008 was “I Can Pray” written by Nathan Markee and recorded by The Dove Brothers. This great song has now been picked up by Camp Kirkland in the new choral arrangement titled “He Still Speaks” released through Prism Music. This work not only contains “I Can Pray”, but many great southern gospel songs like “His Life For Mine, Mountain Mover and Built On The Rock” for your church choir to enjoy singing. Thanks to Camp Kirkland for putting “I Can Pray” into a whole new realm of christian music.
The fingers of God point down specific roads. Even when we are totally lost and confused, He has signs guiding us where we should go. Sometimes He gives us directions through people He places in our paths. (more…)
This past week while we were on the road, we received word that the father of our dear friend, Steve Hurst, passed away. We will be attending the funeral in Nashville on Monday. This reminds me of a few years ago when were returning home from another long trip. Roger received word that his aunt had passed away and the family wanted us to sing at the graveside service. Nobody can say these “kids”‘ are a flash in the pan! The previous twelve years have rendered one hit after another. And rightfully so – they’re one of the most talented and dedicated families around! The trio’s current radio single, “Life Goes On” has had an amazingly rapid rise in the charts. I kind a’ chuckle to myself as I remember Roger Talley’s remarks right before its release. The very humble and reserved singer-producer said, “I don’t know how well it’ll do on radio, but it’s a message we want to convey.”
When Roger says that, which he does often, I feel quite content on two fronts. Number one, the song will probably go on to be a huge hit, because the man can pick ‘em! And number two, if it doesn’t, well, you can figure it out.
