In the Studio: Rich Crist works on vocal mix for Crist Family CD
It’s not every day that one can walk into Crossroads studios and see, behind the familiar mixing console, the artist!
There was so much to mix that Rich Crist and Van Atkins decided to split responsibilities, with Rich working on vocals and Van working on the tracks.
In the Studio: Crist Family Christmas CD mix
Van Atkins and Rich Crist are in the studio this week, finishing up the mix on the Crist Family’s upcoming Timeless Christmas CD. The CD is scheduled to release to retail on September 20, 2011.
In the Studio: Crist Family live brass orchestrations
Producer Jeff Collins recently visited Watershed Studios in Nashville to oversee production of live brass, arranged by Jason Webb, on the Crist Family’s upcoming Christmas project. This is a clip from “Love Me Some Snow.”
Work continues at Crossroads Studios in Arden this month on the project’s final mix.
Tami Crist Starkel shares about “His Strength is Perfect”
The Crist Family’s latest radio single is “His Strength is Perfect.” Tami Crist Starkel recently revealed that including it was actually a last-minute decision:
The decision to put “His Strength Is Perfect” written by Steven Curtis Chapman and Jerry Salley on the OASIS CD was a last minute decision. We had already chosen and were ready to record it when I pulled my brother aside and pleaded with him to allow me to record this song. Through the years it has meant a great deal to me.
I have faced several trials in my life one of them being epilepsy. Having a thorn in my side like Paul talks about in Corinthians, I have clung many times in my life to the verse Philippians 4:13 (“I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength”). I wanted to share this song with others in hopes that it would encourage them the way it has me.

Tom and Gail Joyce retire from Crist Family
The Crist Family announced this week that, after fourteen years with the group, Tom and Gail Joyce will be coming off the road. Tom sang bass for the group; Gail ran sound. They are planning on moving to Montana to be closer to Gail’s mother, who is in poor health, and to their two young grandchildren.
The Crist Family stated: “Tom and Gail have been and will always be very special to The Crist Family. They have become like family to us and we will never forget our years of service together with them. We completely understand and support their decision to retire and wish them the very best as they move on.”
The Crist Family will not be seeking a new bass singer; they plan to continue as a six-member family ensemble.

Crist Family’s Oasis featured on SG Music Forum
SG Music Forum recently posted a review, written by Scott Evans, of the Crist Family‘s latest CD, Oasis. A highlight:
I am always amazed at how they seem to get better which each passing project. To say that this group has come a long way since those early review days would be a huge understatement. They literally came a long way when they moved to Tennessee but musically they have matured into one of the top family and mixed groups traveling today.
