New Christmas Project: A Mountain Home Christmas

Posted on: November 19th, 2010 by

A Mountain Home ChristmasCrossroads Music’s bluegrass label, Mountain Home Music, just released a new three-song Christmas project, titled A Mountain Home Christmas.

Three of the Bluegrass groups on the label, Balsam Range, Darin & Brooke Aldridge, and Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver, each stepped into the studio in November to cut Christmas singles—just in time for the holidays. Doyle brings us a sentimental song, “It’s Christmas Time,” sung in four part harmony with Doyle taking the lead vocals. Balsam Range adds a sweet ballad, “Mary’s Little Lamb,” and Darin and Brooke Aldridge bring back a driving Country Gentlemen tune “Christmas Time Back Home,” reworked to include some pleasant musical surprises.

All these tunes are available for purchase as digital downloads here; they can also be heard on the Sirius/XM station Bluegrass Junction.

The title track is currently climbing in the Bluegrass Unlimited Chart and we thank IBMA member voters for recognizing Doyle this year.

Crossroads/Mountain Home at IBMA

I had a great time representing Crossroads/Mountain Home at this year’s International Bluegrass Music Association’s yearly conference in Nashville, Tn. Highlights included seeing a great showcase Monday night of our newly signed artist, Darin and Brooke Aldridge, visiting with Andrea Roberts and Jessie Law from the Andrea Roberts Agency, and catching up with former Mountain Home Recording artists The Lonesome River Band, New Found Road and Dale Ann Bradley. It was also great to see our friend and Horizon Recording Artist Doyle Lawson who is making plans for an upcoming Gospel release in 2010! I also attended the IBMA’s yearly awards ceremony at the Ryman Auditorium on Thursday, October 1st. The company was not nominated for a particular award as in years past but it was a pleasure to sit in the historic Ryman and watch performances by some of the best in the Bluegrass world.
The week rounded out on Friday and Saturday, October 2nd and 3rd, with Bluegrass Fan Fest. The weekend included performances by the top new and established acts in the industry including Doyle Lawson and my good friends and Mountain Home Artists, Balsam Range. What a great performance!
Thanks for the great week folks and see you next year.
Here is a video highlight of Darin and Brooke Aldridge at their Monday night IBMA selected showcase.

Posted on: August 21st, 2009 by

Bluegrass newcomers Balsam Range have captured the #1 slot on the Bluegrass Unlimited National Bluegrass Survey for September with their song, “Last Train to Kitty Hawk.” The single is the title track from their second album released through Mountain Home Music, a division of Crossroads Entertainment & Marketing, Inc.

Shipped in January of this year, “Last Train To Kitty Hawk” rocketed onto the national Bluegrass chart in just two months! The project debuted on the BU album chart the same month and peaked at #2 in June.

“We are humbled by the success of ‘Last Train’ and can’t thank the DJ’s enough for their support,” commented Darren Nicholson of Balsam Range. Headded, “We’re so thankful that bluegrass programmers all over the world are willing to support an up and coming group.”

Balsam Range will be featured this year at the International Bluegrass Music Association’s Fan Fest in October. To see their full calendar, hear music and more, go to www.balsamrange.com

Balsam Range’s Last Train to Kitty Hawk

Posted on: March 12th, 2009 by 3 Comments

Along with sales and promotion here at Crossroads, I am the Bluegrass Guru. I play it, listen to it and love it. Sometimes I am made fun of for it but it is worth it! Especially when some good friends and extremely talented guys like the members of Balsam Range produce such a great recording like the one that was released on Mountain Home this January. The CD: Last Train to Kitty Hawk has already hit the national Bluegrass charts published by Bluegrass Unlimited [edit: link expired] debuting at 27 for the title track and 15 for the overall album play. That was quick! If you are in the area you can attend the band’s CD release party at the Colonial Theater in Canton, NC this Saturday March 14th at 7 p.m.
