Press Release: Brian Alvey joins The Talleys

Posted on: August 31st, 2011 by No Comments

One of gospel music’s most beloved families, the Talley Trio, announces an exciting new chapter in their lives and ministry. Brian Alvey joins Roger, Debra and Lauren on stage in September 2011, making his debut at the Gatlinburg Gathering. Brian and Lauren were married in June 2011 and with this change the group will officially be known as The Talleys.

“Brian not only brings an impressive vocal ability to the group, but will add a new excitement to the stage with his proficiency on bass guitar, piano, electric and acoustic guitar and steel guitar. We look forward to showcasing his many talents on stage, but what we love most is his testimony, his heart for ministry and the impact he will have on listeners,” says Roger Talley.

Brian is an Indiana native and was raised in a pastor’s home. He has previously played piano and sung with Southern Sound, Beyond the Ashes and Tribute Quartet. Brian co-wrote Tribute’s first top 10 single, “That’s Why I Love Him So,” and was a 2009 Top 10 nominee for Horizon Individual of the Year.

Darin and Brooke Aldridge CD release Party, Stunning in the Sun

Posted on: August 1st, 2011 by No Comments

Darin and Brooke, along with sponsors Choice USA, distributor of Sun Drop, held a mini music festival at the Cleaveland County Fairgrounds in Shelby, NC to celebrate the new Mountain Home Music release, So Much In Between, which finds its official street date August 16, 2011. The event also included multiple vendors and an emerging artist stage that hosted amateur and professional bands, as well as a student band instructed by Darin Aldridge.

Although complicated by an unseasonably high heat index and an eventual lightning threat that prevented the concert from going to its full length, the band commanded a stellar performance with ideal sound and execution that resulted in a CD quality concert experience.

With finely rehearsed arrangements and vocal harmonies rivaling the best in the music world, the group offered select singles from the new release as well as songs from the band’s prior releases and a healthy mix of Bluegrass classics.

By dusk, many local fans and regional attendees braved the heat to hear and see a spectacular night of music.

Southern Gospel Ponderings reviews Grace Says

Posted on: July 29th, 2011 by No Comments

Nate’s Southern Gospel Ponderings just posted a glowing review of the Kingsmen’s latest project, Grace Says. He concludes:

The blend of this current lineup is one of the best in Southern Gospel, they are I believe not far away from being near the top of the Southern Gospel world, as they once were with that unmistakable sound that they developed… I can highly recommend this album to either current fans of the Kingsmen, or to fans of good quartet harmony and ardent lyrics sung in a powerful way. In other words, go buy this album!

MNSGFan recently posted a review of Tribute Quartet’s new release The Waiting is Over. A highlight:

Overall, The Waiting Is Over presents Tribute Quartet with an opportunity to catapult into the upper-tier of SG artists. Sure, it has some weak spots, but Tribute more than makes up for it with some very strong tracks that are sure to be chart-toppers.

Brian Alvey to join The Talleys

Posted on: July 25th, 2011 by No Comments

Earlier this afternoon, I talked with Roger Talley about a change you’re going to be seeing in the Talley Trio soon.

Daniel: I heard you mentioned earlier this week that Brian Alvey will be joining the group. Is this true?

Roger: We’ve known for a long time that Brian is an extremely talented individual. He has been working with us for the past year, behind the scenes, doing marketing and promotion, and helping with a lot of things that we’re involved in. Now that he and Lauren are married, we’ve decided that we’re going to take advantage of his talents and have him join us in the road, on stage. We feel that he has real calling to share not only singing and playing, but through his songwriting and his speaking ability as well. We’re going to be having him fill a wide variety of roles.

Daniel: With four people on stage, will you continue to go by the Talley Trio?

Roger: We will just be The Talleys. Some songs will be trios, and some will be four-part, but it will not just be the Talley Trio.

Daniel: Brian is a tenor singer; will you be singing bass?

Roger: Now, obviously, I’m not going not to suddenly become a bass singer. There are a lot of parts that I can sing, but bass is not one of them! So don’t look for a traditional quartet sound.

Daniel: Could you tell us a little about Brian’s background in Southern Gospel?

Roger: He has sung with Southern Sound, Beyond the Ashes, and Tribute Quartet. He has played instruments on stage with Southern Sound and Tribute Quartet, and written several songs for Tribute Quartet, including the hit single “That’s Why I Love Him So.”

Daniel: Will Brian be playing instruments on stage with the Talleys?

Roger: Yes. He plays a wide variety of instruments, including piano, bass, and acoustic and electric guitars, and we’ll be doing more live music with him playing some. On some songs, we’ll do four-part harmony, and different trios on others. We’ll just have a much bigger variety on stage.

Daniel: And for the question everyone’s wondering, by this point: When will he start?

Roger: We have had a rehearsal or two already. We’re working on some of the songs that we are currently singing. We hope to be ready to debut this new sound by September 1st. This fall, we will begin work on a new recording with the four of us.

We are excited about what he will bring to our team.

Randy Crawford back on Kingsmen bus; Cody McVey departs

Posted on: July 13th, 2011 by No Comments

The Kingsmen announced this morning that baritone vocalist Randy Crawford is back on the road; he has recovered enough from the heart infection that his doctors have cleared him to tour. He will have follow-up testing and may face surgery later in the year.

Pianist Cody McVey will be leaving to pursue a college music education at Lee College in Cleveland, Tennessee. Pianists interested in applying for the open position can contact kingsmenpianist@kingsmenquartet.com.
