The McKameys Return To Crossroads Studios

Posted on: August 19th, 2009 by 1 Comment

The McKameys were recently at Crossroads Studios recording the music tracks for their upcoming release. “The McKameys continue to select incredible songs that work so well for them and their audience,” states co-producer Jeff Collins. “We knew when we were cutting the songs and listening to the lyrics that the McKameys very likely have more hits on the way!”  Peg commented that “Sheryl was a little apprehensive about being in the studio for the first time in a good while, but soon was at ease and enjoyed a wonderful day of creativity and fun. Everyone had a great time in the studio, and we look forward to finishing up our vocal tracks soon.”

Look for the new McKameys release in November of this year.

96.3 WGOG AWARDS FIRST EAGLE AWARD TO SONGWRITER
The first Eagle Award to be given  annually by 96.3 WGOG for the Southern gospel music Artist of the Year was presented Saturday at the station’s 50th Anniversary Gospel Music Concert held at the Walhalla Civic Auditorium.

Sandy Stephens Knight, a Walhalla native who has garnered international and national awards for her twenty-five years of songwriting and singing in the family group The Roy Knight Singers based in Six Mile, was named recipient of the Eagle.

A near-capacity audience was on hand as the award was presented by Wayne Morton, 96.3 WGOG’s operations manager and host of The Golden Corner Gospel program heard Sunday mornings. Auditorium director Ray Burroughs and former announcer and on-air program host for WSNW in Seneca – our sister station – Freeman Martin assisted in the presentation.

As the station’s 50th anniversary observance continues, 96.3 WGOG will welcome the internationally-known bluegrass group Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver to the Walhalla Civic Auditorium August 21, 2009.

Janet Paschal Tops The August Singing News Charts

Posted on: July 29th, 2009 by 1 Comment
Treasure

Nationally known female gospel artist, Janet Paschal, has reached her first #1 on the National Singing News Chart for the month of August. Hide Me Sweet Rock of Ages, written some 30 years ago by Nancy Harmon, experienced a true revitalization in the hands of Janet and producer Wayne Haun of Vine Records. When asked about the success of the song Janet offered, “It is both amazing and humbling that the ladies and gentlemen of radio have continued to support my work for all of these years. What is especially gratifying is the fact that some of the radio personalities who played the original version some 30 years ago, are able to have a new generation of listeners embrace it. The genre, the songs, and the messages live on.”

Wayne Haun and Kevin Ward of Vine Records, partnered with Crossroads to bring the new album, Treasure, to Gospel fans last November. Haun adds, “I used to play this song over and over when I was a kid listening to the Rex Nelon Singers. Songs like this helped to mold me into the producer I am today. Little did I know that I’d have to honor to re-record, 27 years later, a song that would still thrill audiences. Great songs really are timeless!”

Crossroads Radio Department director Jim Stover diligently promoted the song and comments, “For over ten years I’ve had the distinct honor of promoting singles for many Southern Gospel music treasures. I must confess, as a fan, working in that capacity for Janet Paschal will always be a highlight of my career. She’s a lady in the truest sense of the word! On behalf of all of us at Crossroads, thank you radio friends for making her first Singing News # 1 song a reality!”

The celebration included a special luncheon with the group and the Crossroads staff at the Crossroads studio and offices.

Veteran radio promoter Jim Stover congratulated the group for gaining their 10th #1 single. “When a true heart for ministry is coupled with extraordinary vocal and arranging talents like this wonderful family has, the result is bound to be chart-topping songs. The old adage about ‘the cream’ rising definitely applies here! Crossroads is honored to be the Talley Trio’s record company, and we’re grateful to our many radio friends for making ‘Life Goes On‘ their 10th # 1 song!”

Balsam Range’s Last Train to Kitty Hawk

Posted on: March 12th, 2009 by 3 Comments

Along with sales and promotion here at Crossroads, I am the Bluegrass Guru. I play it, listen to it and love it. Sometimes I am made fun of for it but it is worth it! Especially when some good friends and extremely talented guys like the members of Balsam Range produce such a great recording like the one that was released on Mountain Home this January. The CD: Last Train to Kitty Hawk has already hit the national Bluegrass charts published by Bluegrass Unlimited [edit: link expired] debuting at 27 for the title track and 15 for the overall album play. That was quick! If you are in the area you can attend the band’s CD release party at the Colonial Theater in Canton, NC this Saturday March 14th at 7 p.m.
