David Johnson Receives Impact Award

Posted on: September 21st, 2009 by

Long-time studio musician David Johnson was honored recently by the Singing News and Front Porch Fellowship as the 2009 recipient of the Impact Award. Mickey Gamble, president of Crossroads, accepted the award at the National Quartet Convention stating “I’m sure David has played on more Southern Gospel songs (including number one songs) than any other musician in the past 25 years. He certainly is deserving of this recognition for many years of hard work and pure talent.” David said to pass along his “thanks to all the kind folks who allow me to work on their recordings”, and gives all the honor to “Jesus who has made the ultimate impact in my life.”

The Privilege of a Great Dad

Posted on: June 21st, 2009 by 2 Comments

On this Father’s Day, I find myself thinking of and being privileged to have had a truly wonderful father. His name was Bob Collins. He was a simple man, who loved his family and who was always willing to put his family first. He easily showed his love and always demonstrated a positive attitude, no matter what problems were going on behind the scenes. He was a great listener and loved to hear about what interested other people. He was very artistic and especially loved to work with wood. I have a house full of beautiful art he created over the years. He was consistent in his discipline and through love, directed me in the right direction in preparation for life. He lived a life of faith in God by example, seeing to it that the family was always involved in church activities. Yep, I am indeed privileged to have had such a rich blessing in life. Bob Collins, among other things, was a great dad who I miss every day…but especially today on this Father’s Day.Bob Collins

Inspirations at Crossroads

Posted on: May 21st, 2009 by 1 Comment

This week I had the pleasure of producing the music tracks for the Inspirations new recording, along with the talented David Johnson and Tim Surrett. Martin Cook and all the boys have selected some incredible song material for this project due out in August. With new members David Ragan (lead)  and Dallas Rogers (tenor), the Inspirations begin a new chapter in a very long and successful run in bringing powerful gospel music to the masses.

Cross 4 Crowns at Crossroads Studios

Posted on: April 28th, 2009 by

We were pleased to have Cross 4 Crowns in the studio recently working on their new project set to release this summer through Crossroads. Group owner and baritone singer Allen Leath and his wife Tabatha spent a few days me working on song arrangements, and then in the studio with musicians David Johnson, Tony Creasman, Jeremy Medkiff, and engineer Scott Barnett. We had two great days of creating what we hope will be a fantastic new recording for Cross 4 Crowns. Getting to know Allen and Tabatha was a pleasure and I have really enjoyed our journey so far through this project!

Thursday, April 23rd was a day of celebration at Crossroads as The Crist Family were promoted within the company to the Horizon Records label. Their new recording, Declaration has just released this April and Crossroads anticipates an incredible positive response to this exciting family’s new material. “Rich Crist and I wanted to continue to move the Crist family further out of the box, showcasing the Crist Family’s ever-growing talent. We’re all very pleased with the outcome and have been overwhelmed at the positive response from buyers already,” states co-producer Jeff Collins. “I also recently had the pleasure of seeing the Crist Family live in concert as they premiered much of the new material. The audience response was phenomenal!” Mickey Gamble, A&R Director for Horizon Records remarked, “several years ago, I knew there was something very special about the Crist Family when I first met them. They are a class act and represent integrity and quality for our industry.” The Crist Family’s Declaration is available through Crossroads via digital download and compact disc.

Family harmony is hard to beat and that is certainly the case with this brothers trio, Voices Won from Dalton, Ga. I had the pleasure of producing this artist for a second time and really enjoy working with them. Jaron, Staclynn and Shantell Faulknor are talented singers and Jaron writes many of the group’s songs. Their progressive, southern sound will appeal to gospel fans of all ages. Look for their upcoming release this summer on Crossroads records.

We are very blessed to have the Primitive Quartet back again for what I would guess would be about the 20th recording they’ve done with us…maybe more! You just don’t meet anyone any nicer than these guys. The popular Primitive Quartet are recording again this month at Crossroads Studios and members Mike, Reagan and Larry Riddle, Norman Wilson, Randy Fox and Jeff Tolbert were all very excited about their upcoming release later this spring. “It’s always good to be back at Crossroads for our annual recording”, states Mike Riddle. “We’ve been recording here for 20 years or more, and every year they seem to improve. Thanks to everyone at Crossroads, especially Van Atkins who works so hard on our recordings.” These men are the ultimate pros when it comes to recording, always prepared and ready to go to work. It’s our privilege to have the legendary Primitive Quartet at Crossroads…and thanks for the brownies and cake too!!

We are very glad to have a new member to our team here at Crossroads! Scott Barnett joins us as a full-time studio engineer. Scott brings a wealth of experience with him…12 years as a chief engineer…a Full Sail graduate, second in his class…and a very good knowledge of the gospel industry. (more…)
